"Hatchling"

"Hatchling" Oil on board SOLD

Well, it's been well over a month since I posted last. I've been busy teaching and painting, doing the things I enjoy the most, working on new paintings and trying to develop my ideas beyond the sketchy, thought stages. "Hatchling" is a new painting based on a previous watercolour and I'm really quite pleased with it.
My good friend Paul Brown has recently introduced me to a new support/board called Gessobord, available from the states and I'm really looking forward to trying it. It has quite a smooth, completely non absorbent surface that he reckons is perfect for my style of work, so I'm just about to give it a try. I'll keep you informed.
Our art classes here in Hanc are still busy. If your in the area and would like to see what you can do, please get in touch. I'll try and make sure the next posting doesn't take so long to produce.

Your comments or questions are welcome.

  1. Thanks for your comment on my blog. read through your blog. Very interesting work. Looks as though you have a big job to fill what with teaching and panting.
After so many years painting I still find myself trying out new techniques and inventing some mself. Such as using liquin. I have just begun underpainting in acrylic and kind of like what it does on canvas. Read where you are going to try Gesso board. I have used it a lot and do really like it.
    God bless and happy painting.

  2. It's a big job, no doubt, but great fun and I do find that teaching moves my own work forward a great deal. As for Liquin, a gift to painters, I think - great for glazes and overlays of colour and tone.
    Thanks for your comments, Gary

Thought you may know mr Brown ! Thanks for your comment enjoyed your work , just a note I gesso my own mdf boards with black gesso then sand down and repeat apply and sand again , its a very inexpensive way of painting.

  4. Hi Ray,
Very interesting work, "Hatching" is beautifully done and a totally unique concept. Altogether, very nice work.
I use liquin too, but I think it destroys brushes.
